Do you ever have the feeling that there’s not enough time in the day to do everything you need to do? Well, we feel that way sometimes too and that’s why you may have noticed that our blog isn’t updated as often as it should be!!

But don’t fear; we actually keep up a steady dialogue on the All for Animals–Santa Barbara Facebook page. Please pop over to say hi and remember to become a fan to stay up-to-date on animal-centric happenings in Santa Barbara…and beyond!

In our last post, we introduced you to Tinker, a tiny Chihuahua who was looking for her forever home. We’re pleased to report that this darling doggie went home with her new mom yesterday afternoon. She now has someone to love, a warm lap to sit in, and a feline friend to play with! Congratulations, Tinker. We’ll miss you SO MUCH!

Sweet lil’ Tinker is a 3-4 year old purebred Chihuahua. She came to DAWG in Santa Barbara from a hoarding situation in Santa Maria, where she lived with about 20 other little dogs. After undergoing THREE surgeries to repair a “cherry eye,” hernia and to get spayed, she is now ready for her forever home!

Meet Tinker!

Tinker is PURE LOVE and we want to find her the perfect home where she’ll be loved 24/7!! She’s great in the car, is comfortable sleeping in a crate (although she wants to sit in a warm lap as often as possible!), gets along with cats and other dogs and requires minimal exercise. She’s much too delicate for small children; she’ll do best in an adult-only household where she can be with people or another little dog during the day. We think she’d make a great therapy dog! One caveat: Tinker will need a little help learning to be 100% potty trained.

Please watch Tinker’s video and then call the Dog Adoption and Welfare Group (DAWG) at (805) 681-0561 to learn how you can adopt this darling doggie!

From the Associated Press: Overstock.com Inc. has stopped selling watchbands, shoes and luggage made from the skins of exotic animals.

The Salt Lake City-based Internet retailer announced Monday that it pulled listings involving items with alligator, lizard, ostrich, stingray, eel, shark and kangaroo skin from its website.

The group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals took credit for pushing Overstock to reverse course. PETA showed Overstock Chairman and CEO Patrick Byrne a video of lizards and snakes being skinned alive.

In a statement, Byrne thanked PETA for “informing us of these issues and presenting us with evidence that factored into our decision.”

The move follows Overstock’s boycott of fur and ivory goods.

Melissa Wilson, who lobbies retailers for PETA, called on other retailers to “give exotic skins the boot.”

Overstock offers 2 million products, generating sales of more than $834 million a year.

Overstock said it dropped luggage that used alligator skin; shoes made of kangaroo, snake, ostrich and alligator skin; and watchbands of snake, shark and stingray skin.

Shares of Overstock rose 15 cents, or 1.1 percent, to $13.71 in trading Monday. The stock has traded in a 52-week range of $6.71 to $17.99.

Do you need help from Cesar Millan, star of the hit reality series, Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan? If so, this could be your lucky day! Producers of the show will be auditioning people and their pups at For Paws Salon in Santa Barbara on January 8. In preparation for the audition, here is what you need to do:

1) Make a video that showcases your dog’s strange, phobic, annoying, or aggressive behavior. Take extra precaution when dealing with aggressive dogs and use a leash, muzzle, or fence when trying to record the behavior. In addition, explain what makes your situation unique and why you need help.

2) Fill out the release forms on Cesar’s Web site and bring them to the audition with your video. Dogs are not required to attend the audition, so please leave aggressive dogs at home.

Audition Date and Time:

Did You Hear…?

Today, a darling doggie was adopted from DAWG (Dog Adoption and Welfare Group) in Santa Barbara. Admittedly, this is great news by itself, but wait… it gets even better. A volunteer happened to overhear the family’s 7-year-old daughter whisper to her mom as they were leaving the shelter: “Mommy, this is better than 100 Christmases!”

All together now…. Ahhhhhhhh!!!

Exciting news from ASAP (Animal Shelter Adoption Program): “We adopted out 33 cats during our Adoption Fair on Saturday (that beats the record of 30 cats during our Adoption fair in June!).

Adults: Jack, Pebbles, Lucy, Serena, Thalia, Zula, Paulina, Pearl, Klix, Brownie, Valerie, Beddy, Pepper & Lizzie (together), Oriana, Moth, Amber, and Tigre.

Kittens: Tess, Ebony, Snickers, Snowball, Bailey, Dewey, Puck, Kahlua, Georgia, Troy, Marvin, Huey, Bandit, Marcus, and Annabelle.

K-9 PALS did some great adoptions too… One of a dog who had been at the shelter for almost two years got adopted today! Everyone was in the parking lot applauding as he left the shelter with his new family!!”

Iris (pictured below) was a little under the weather and wasn’t placed on the adoption floor last weekend.

Iris is a 4-year-old torti-point. She's sweet, talkative, and beautiful!

She’s feeling better and would LOVE to have a home for the holidays!! Stop by ASAP at 5473 Overpass Road, off Patterson Avenue, or call (805) 683-3368 for more information.

The economy may be in the doghouse, but that doesn’t mean you and your four-legged friends can’t have a little fun this holiday season. Here’s a sampling of some doggone great events taking place this weekend in Santa Barbara:

Saturday, December 5 & Sunday, December 6 – Home for the Holidays Adoption Fair. The Santa Barbara County Shelter, which includes K-9 PALS (dogs) and ASAP (cats) is bursting at the seams with healthy, lovable cats and dogs and each and every one of them would love to find a home for the holidays.

Stop by the shelter (5473 Overpass Road) from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm and select a new best friend or simply enjoy face painting, a bake sale, stocking stuffers and a raffle to help support life-saving shelter programs. The cost to adopt a dog during the fair is only $35.00; all cats and kittens are only $10.00 (that’s a $55.00 savings over regular adoption fees!). Visit www.k-9pals.org or www.asapcats.org for more information.

Santa Paws and friends posing for a picture!

Sunday, December 6 – Santa Paws is coming to…Dioji! From 1:00 – 4:00 pm, stop by Dioji K-9 Resort & Athletic Club (across from Costco at 7340 Hollister Avenue in Goleta) and have your dog and/or kid’s photo snapped with “Santa Paws.” Photo packages start at $15.00 and all proceeds go to DAWG (Dog Adoption and Welfare Group). Photos by Bonnie Baker, DAWG’s official photographer. For more information, call Dioji at (805) 685-6068 or visit www.dioji.com.

I couldn’t resist sending out this adorable photo!! It’s been circulating around the Internet for awhile, but I don’t know who snapped this pup “in action” (or, more precisely, lack of action).

If you are the photographer, please contact me and I’ll give you kudos for a job well-done.

This dog is, um, dog tired!

If you are so inclined, send along a funny, far-out, practical, prophetic thoughtful, touching, witty, or wise saying (and high quality photo) and I’ll share it with everyone.
